Sources such as reports issued by the Former Commission for Rehabilitation of Disabled War Veterans & Ex-servicemen, the Regional Bureau of Labor and Social Affairs and ICRC estimated that there exists more than forty five thousand persons with disabilities including the ex-combatants and innocent civilians due to disastrous landmines and barbarian air-raids during the war that was largely confined in the region for more than fifteen years. This number increases due to the recent Ethio-Eritrea conflict which is acknowledged, as the worst in Africa's recent past. The number is therefore estimated to grow to more than hundred thousand. Plus more than 400ha of land is abandoned for it is enclosed as landmine infested area where thousands of farmers are displaced.
