NGO/CSO day of the millennium 2007 celebrated from December 14-16, 2007 at the Ethiopian millennium hall, Bole Road. The event officially opened by his Excellency president of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ato Girma W/Giorgis. In the event more than 200 NGOs and CSOs participated and show their commitment in line with the credo of the event which says ‘renewing our commitment to eradicate poverty.’ TDVA as a local development partner and signatory member of NGOs code of conduct in Ethiopia took part in the “Vibrant NGOs/CSOs: the millennium’s development partner” exhibition and bazaar displaying in its 3*4 booth various photographs, video show of documentary films and power point display of its overall mission, vision, programs and strategic plan. A brief explanation was given to visitors and more than 550 copes of different publications and brochures are also distributed for free. In the 3 days occasion a variety of different entertaining and educational programs, discussion forums with higher government officials and media programs was held. TDVA Gala Night in Washington, D.C. .... |
The extraordinary and glittering gala night, held in support of the Tirgean Disabled Veterans’ Association /TDVA - North America Project has culminated reaaping off a reverberating success on December 8, 2007 in Washington, D.C. In what was a record-high level of outpouring and massive turn out of the Tigrean Community and friends in the Washington, D. C. Metro area, the fund-raising event garnered and cashed in $ 63,000 way above the anticipated amount by all accounts. The Tigrean Community and friends in the Washington metro area and its environs expressed its exuberating solidarity and partnership with the heroes and heroines by jubilant and festive mood it displayed, featuring the joyous and entertaining event, held in the expansive congregation hall of the Nativity Church on Georgia Avenue. The gala night was dignified by the selfless donation by the Tigrean Women’s Association in the vicinity, footing $ 10,000 (Ten Thousand US Dollars) to augment the project initiative. The cultural and artistic extravaganza accompanied by renowned artists and musicians galvanized the audience and added extra glamour and color to the occasion. A DVD show, depicting the effort of TDVA members to be self-sustained and the all-rounded support that the project marshaled from the government, non-government agencies and the public at large was screened on the event. A candid presentation of TDVA activities to-date and a call for enhanced support from the Diaspora was also made by Mr. Asmelash Weldeselassie, the head of the three-man TDVA delegation. |

The TDVA fundraising program is progressing successfully. According to our sources the events in Las Vegas and Washington DC are held as per the planned schedule on December 5 and 8, 2007 respectively. The spirit and hospitality in both cities was very fascinating. The delegation team expresses its enthusiastic appreciation for all endeavors that are carried out to the best success of the programs by all parties. Other than conducting fundraising events and discussion forums, the delegation team is also providing information and briefing the event participants in the recently instituted mechanism of establishing a consistent approach to enhance TDVA’s network and solicit assistance through volunteer membership. With this there have been efforts across the country and it is endowed to get thousands of supports with in short period. In their tour to North America, They are expecting to have a wide range of volunteer supporters. TDVA delegation team arrive USA and is welcomed by its volunteer supporters and UTNA last Saturday; December 02, 2007. The team expresses its gratitude on behalf of TDVA, the War Disabled Veterans and their volunteer supporters for all what they are endeavoring for the success of TDVA fundraising events. The tour to North America is a first in its kind to be held in such a coordinated way and will let the Diaspora community get an opportunity to introduce with TDVA and its achievements. A 30 minutes documentary film under the title “We are not desperate. We are winners yet again!” is expected to be launched as one component of the program. The events in different states comprise different program components and are getting a media coverage in which large numbers of people are expected to join. Supported by the ILO-DCI program, TDVA is developing a computerized system on data base management of its member veterans. The program coordinator and PR officer of TDVA Ato Cherkos W/Mariam expresses the progress of the program activities during the final section training provided to Western zone TDVA representatives. According to him almost all the data collection is through in about five zones of the region. a computerized prototype system is approved and will steep soon to fill and encode the data for it will help the organization to follow-up the wellbeing of its members with disability and help to identify intervention needs. The system is expected to be operational in the first quarter of the year 2008. |
