Programs
In all its programs, TDVA gives special emphasis to wards ensuring PWDs access to different social, economic and other basic services. It also addresses cross cutting issues such as Disability, Gender, HIV/AIDS, Rehabilitation, Employment Generation, Disability Rights… in their broader context.
The sector wise focus program and intervention areas are the following:-
A) Physical Rehablitation Program :
Perhaps physical rehabilitation is one of the most important activities that TDVA focus in its operational objective. Once person with disability is able to get assistive devices that can help him surmount his disability and his mobility is enhanced. Then it becomes easy to achieve certain level of economic self-sufficiency and social interaction. It will improve the social life and social role of the disabled markedly because he/she can surmount the physical limitation imposed by disability and attitude of persons change to positive once the person becomes mobile and independent by himself/herself.
Therefore; in order to expand the services of physical rehabilitation to the large portion of needy community, TDVA works to Strengthen and broaden the service potential of Mekelle Orthopedics and Physiotherapy Center. Generally the program:
Aims at:
• Enabling Any needy (persons with disability) to get access to durable and quality physical appliance after proper examination and assessment.
• Taking in to account the existing reality of the cost of the services and ability of a number of the beneficiaries to afford, Sponsorship programs will be encouraged.
• utilizing existing institutional facilities and integrate its program activities to the regional CBR and Health Extension Development Program.
• Introducing contemporary technologies in the area of orthopedics & physiotherapy treatment services so as to improve its service efficiency, have diversify in its products and reduce costs.
